“In the end we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; and we will understand only what we are taught.” Baba Dioum

Fiona Wardle is a conservation photographer and expedition guide who believes that empathy is one of the most powerful tools we have to protect the natural world. Her work is guided by a deep love for wild places and the quiet, often unseen stories within them.

Originally from the UK and now living in Aotearoa New Zealand, Fiona has spent much of the last decade in some of the most remote parts of the planet, from icy polar waters to warm tropical seas, using her camera to connect people to the beauty, vulnerability, and resilience of our planet.

For Fiona, photography isn’t about chasing the perfect shot, it’s about slowing down, paying attention, and sharing moments that move people to care. Whether guiding others through polar landscapes or spending hours at sea in search of whales, she sees storytelling as a bridge between science and emotion, between witnessing and protecting.

Her images speak quietly, but purposefully, inviting viewers to feel something and to act on that feeling.

Passionate about empowering women in the field of photography, ensuring their voices are heard and their contributions acknowledged, Fiona shares a goal in seeing a world where wildlife photography knows no boundaries or limitations.
